Master Data Management (MDM)

  1. A guided tour of Java software development lifecycle management with SAP NetWeaver Development Infrastructure (NWDI): Part 2 — The development process
by Wolf Hengevoss, Senior Product Specialist, SAP NetWeaver Life-Cycle Management, SAP AG

SAP NetWeaver Development Infrastructure (NWDI) is an enterprise-scale Java development platform that provides developers with a well-organized, comprehensive approach and toolset to address the complex challenges of Java development, such as locating source code versions, finding and tracking foreign libraries, eliminating discrepancies between local and central environments, and managing conflicts when multiple developers work on the same object at the same time. The previous installment of this two-part article series introduced the key players in the NWDI architecture and essential NWDI concepts. This article shows you how to apply these concepts by walking you through the NWDI-enabled Java development process.

  2. Centralize, harmonize, and distribute your master data with SAP NetWeaver Master Data Management (MDM)
    by Klaus David

For companies maintaining distributed IT landscapes, accurate and consistent master data is crucial for business success; however, eliminating redundancy and inconsistencies across distributed system landscapes can be a daunting task. This article introduces SAP NetWeaver Master Data Management (MDM) 5.5, a key component of SAP NetWeaver ’04 that provides sophisticated tools for consolidating, synchronizing, and distributing your master data. It provides a detailed overview of the three predefined IT scenarios (Master Data Consolidation, Master Data Harmonization, and Central Master Data Maintenance) that enable you to implement the MDM capabilities you need, and walks you through the configuration of an example scenario.

  3. Minimize data warehouse disruption post mergers and acquisitions with SAP NetWeaver 7.0’s Universal Data Connect and Master Data Management
by Prakash Darji, Product Manager, SAP Labs, LLC Scott Cairncross, Platinum Consultant, Corporate Performance Management, SAP Labs, LLC

Once a merger or acquisition takes place, there are two disparate data warehouses to deal with — each with its own data and model, and potentially based on entirely different solutions. This article shows you how to use the Universal Data (UD) Connect interface provided with SAP NetWeaver 7.0 along with Master Data Management (MDM) to consolidate heterogeneous data. It shows you how to configure UD Connect, walks you through a four-phase process for implementing it and using MDM to integrate the data with minimal disruption, and lastly explains what you need to do to monitor the unified data.

  4. Why You Need and How You Build BAPI Components
by Thomas G. Schuessler, Founder, ARAsoft

If done right, BAPI components will save you time and money, especially in the long run. This article tells you why you need components for BAPI-enabled applications, shows you an enabling component that facilitates the building of BAPI components, and, using the SAP Java Connector (JCo) as the middleware, gives you a concrete example of a component that encapsulates a set of complex BAPIs (the OpenInfoWarehouse BAPIs) to make the development of applications using these BAPIs extremely easy.
